How my web design process works (without the tech overwhelm)
If the thought of building a website makes you want to crawl under a blanket with a cup of tea and pretend the internet doesn’t exist… you are not alone.
Many of the wellness practitioners I work with come to me feeling overwhelmed by the idea of creating (or updating) a website. They know they need one. They know their current site isn’t reflecting the quality of their work. They know potential clients are probably checking them out online before booking.
But the process feels daunting, at best.
Worse: I’ve had several clients recently who TRIED to build their own website, then came to me with a hot mess and a lot of wasted time.
Have you ever wondered: Where do I even start? What pages do I need? What photos should I use? What words should go on my homepage? How the heck do I talk about myself and my services? And do I really need to understand things like SEO, domains, hosting, and website platforms?
The answer is: no. You don’t need to become a web designer to have a beautiful, effective website.
My job as a wellness website designer is to take the technical pieces off your plate while creating a website that feels aligned with your work, your personality, and the clients you’re hoping to reach.
At Blue Skies Web Designs, I specialize in creating thoughtful, approachable websites for wellness practitioners who want a professional online presence without the overwhelm.
Here’s what my website design process looks like.
1. We Start With Your Vision
A great website isn’t just about choosing colors, fonts, and layouts. Before any design happens, we need to understand the heart behind your business.
Your website should clearly communicate:
Who you are
What you offer
Who you help
Why someone should trust you
What makes your approach unique
This is especially important for wellness practitioners. Your clients aren’t just buying a service, they’re choosing someone they feel safe with.
Whether you’re a massage therapist, yoga teacher, somatic practitioner, acupuncturist, or other wellness professional, your website should feel like an extension of the experience you provide.
That means we take time to understand your brand, your ideal client, and the feeling you want people to have when they land on your site.
I do this by providing a carefully curated pre-project workbook designed specifically to get clear on all the salient pieces.
And are you worried about the communication piece? Thinking you’ll have to answer hundreds of emails (or gasp, texts!) about your web design project?
Nope!
I utilize an amazing Client Portal for all my projects that streamlines communication, to-do lists, project tasks and all your project files: ALL IN ONE PLACE. It’s so simple & easy to use.
This an inside peek at the Blue Skies Client Portal— isn’t it pretty?! As the project moves along, things move from the “Homework” and “To-Do” lists to “In Progress” and eventually, “Done!”
2. We Create a Clear Website Strategy
One of the biggest mistakes I see wellness professionals make is trying to put everything they do onto one page with a whoooooole lotta words.
Your website doesn’t need to answer every possible question someone could have. It needs to guide the right people toward the next step.
Together, we’ll determine what pages your website needs and how information should be organized so visitors can easily find what they’re looking for.
A typical wellness website may include pages like:
Home
About
Services
Individual service pages
Testimonials
Contact or booking page
Blog or resources
The goal is clarity.
When someone visits your website, they should quickly understand who you are, what you offer, and how to work with you.

3. I Handle the Technical Details (So You Don’t Have To)
Let’s talk about the part that makes many people’s eyes glaze over: the technology.
Domains. Hosting. Website platforms. SEO settings. Image optimization. Mobile formatting.
These are important pieces of building a successful website, but they shouldn’t require you to spend hours Googling tutorials or trying to troubleshoot confusing settings.
As a Squarespace website designer, I help small businesses create websites that are not only beautiful but also easy for you to manage after launch.
One of the reasons I love working with Squarespace is that it gives my clients the ability to make simple updates themselves without needing to know how to code.
You should never, ever feel locked out or afraid of your own website.
4. We Build a Website That Looks Like You
Your website should not feel like a generic template that could belong to anyone.
Your work is personal— deeply personal— and your website should reflect that.
During the design process, we’ll focus on creating a visual style that feels aligned with your brand, from colors and imagery to layout and overall user experience.
The goal is not just a pretty website.
The goal is a website that attracts the right clients and helps them feel connected to you before they ever reach out.
5. We Make Sure Your Website Can Actually Be Found
A beautiful website is wonderful, but it also needs to be discoverable.
This is where search engine optimization (SEO) comes in.
SEO is the process of helping search engines understand what your website is about so potential clients can find you when they search online.
For example, someone might search for:
“massage therapist in Flagstaff”
“wellness website design”
“Squarespace website designer Arizona”
“somatic practitioner near me”
A strong SEO foundation helps your website have a better chance of appearing in those searches.
SEO doesn’t mean stuffing your website with awkward keywords or writing for robots instead of humans. The best SEO strategy starts with creating genuinely helpful content that answers the questions your ideal clients are already asking.
What You Can Expect During the Website Design Process
Every project is a little different, but here are some of the things you can expect when working together:
1. A Collaborative Experience
You know your business better than anyone. My role is to bring the design expertise, strategy, and technical knowledge while making sure your website still feels like you.
2. Guidance When You Feel Stuck
Not sure what to write? Unsure which photos to choose? Feeling overwhelmed by decisions?
That’s normal.
Part of my process is helping you make those decisions so you don’t have to figure everything out alone.
3. A Website That Feels Professional and Personal
Your website should build trust before someone ever books with you.
It should communicate professionalism while still showing the warmth, personality, and care that make your business unique.
4. A Website You Can Actually Use
A website shouldn’t become another stressful task on your never-ending to-do list.
I design websites with the intention that you can confidently update them, share them, and use them as a tool to grow your business.
Hey you! I’m Vanessa, owner of Blue Skies Web Designs. I build beautiful, effective websites for wellness practitioners because I understand what it’s like to run your own practice: I’ve been an LMT since 2015.
The Bottom Line: Your Website Should Support Your Work, Not Complicate It
Your website is often the first interaction someone has with your business. It’s your digital home — a place where potential clients can learn about you, connect with your approach, and decide whether you’re the right person to support them.
The website design process doesn’t have to feel intimidating or overly technical.
With the right guidance, creating a website can actually be an exciting opportunity to clarify your message, showcase your work, and create an online presence that feels genuinely aligned.
